Start Mashing! Serena Software Announces General Availability of Business Mashup Solution
Pre-Built, Ready-to-Deploy Mashups Will Help Solve Business Issues Immediately
SAN MATEO, Calif. — December 3, 2007 — Serena Software today announced the general availability of its Business Mashup solution, giving companies a faster way to build and deploy simple software applications that solve everyday business problems. More than 1,400 “Mashers” from over 50 countries have evaluated the trial version of Serena® Mashup Composer™ since September. Mashers are eager to build the real thing.
“Business Mashups are here today, and they’re here to stay,” said René Bonvanie, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, partner programs, and online services at Serena. “With Business Mashups, Serena provides an effective way to harness the innovation that exists at every level in every department across an organization – and convert that innovation into business productivity. We call this innovation without permission.”
Ready, Set, Mash
First, Mashers use Serena Mashup Composer, a point-and-click visual design tool, to connect applications and automate business processes – such as sales discount approvals – all without writing any code. Then, with the click of a button, Mashup Composer publishes Business Mashups to Serena Mashup Server, an enterprise-class engine that executes the Business Mashup while providing the high reliability, security, and compliance that IT requires.
No Fuss, No Muss Mashups
To get companies started with Business Mashups, Serena will be offering an initial set of 13 free, pre-built Business Mashups that can be deployed immediately to address some of the most simple yet time-consuming processes in business today.
For example, employee requests for time off or travel approval typically require several emails or – even worse – literally walking around to managers to get signatures. Why not automate this process with a Business Mashup that can link the required people and systems?
Serena’s pre-built Business Mashups automate common business and IT processes including:
- Vacation Requests
- Employee Onboarding
- Sales Discount Approvals
- Agile Project Management
- Support Case Escalations
- IT Change Requests
Additionally, Business Mashups combine content and processes from many different systems using industry-standard SOA and Web services interfaces, making it possible to quickly extend the functionality of existing applications. Virtually any modern system can be “mashed” including: Salesforce.com, Siebel, Microsoft Sharepoint, Remedy, HP Mercury, and others.
Pricing and Availability
In a departure from traditional application development pricing models, Serena believes that the tools to build Business Mashups should be free.
- Serena Mashup Composer, with services and support, will be available free of charge.
- Serena’s pre-built Business Mashups will be available free of charge.
- Contact your Serena sales representative for pricing of Serena’s on-premise Mashup Server.
As part of its initiative to get closer to its customers, Serena also today launched MashupTV. The latest news, insights, and updates on Business Mashups are available at www.serena.com.
